Course Title: Mobilizing Cranial Sutures Along the Anaotmy Trains Lines

Course Date: April 26-28, 2024

Course Instructor: Lauren Christman

Lauren Christman received her massage therapy certification at the Brian Utting School of Massage in Seattle in 1994. For over 8 years, she was a core faculty member and Dean of Students and, later also served as the Dean of Faculty and Acting Director. She continued her training in craniosacral (biomechanical and later biodynamic) and visceral manipulation and in pediatric work with her mentor, Bruno Ducoux, DO. In 2004 she completed a certification program in craniosacral work (biomechanical and biodynamic) with Ursula Popp, LAc, and assisted in her classes for several years. In 2004, she completed a certification in Structural Integration (ATSI) with Thomas Myers, author of Anatomy Trains. Lauren was certified in Visceral Manipulation in 2009 through the Barral Institute (with Christoph Sommer, NHP and Lisa Polec, DC, in particular). From 2010 forward, her continuing education has focused primarily on neural manipulation, a gentle method that frees the nerves using osteopathic methods and trauma-informed care. Lauren became a Certified Teacher of Anatomy Trains and taught Thomas Myers' coursework in the Northwest, East Coast and in Europe from 2005-2013. In 2008, she and Richard Polishuk began developing their own classes. In 2017, Lauren took over Ursula Popp’s Craniosacral Certification program. For the past five years she has been tooling and retooling the curriculum, while keeping many of the key elements in place. One of her greatest joys in the classroom is the dance between her and the students, as they all come to clarity about the body, its challenges and the inherent capacity for healing. Teaching has been a wonderful complement to Lauren’s practice, consistently refreshing and clarifying her skills and understanding. She loves the dance with students - how each person comes to this work in their own way. This creates a spark in her to find as many ways to communicate this work as possible. Each class is unique, each student is unique, and the work itself keeps evolving. It's a blessing to be in such a dynamic environment!

Course Start and end times: 10am - 12pm and 2pm - 4pm EDT

Course Type: online synchronous

Course Description: Please join Lauren Christman for a practice-enhancing live webinar open to all manual therapists! Take your knowledge of the Anatomy Train lines one step farther — into the cranium! In this 12-hour webinar, we’ll look at the structure and function of the cranial sutures, from the lens of Tom Myers’ myofascial meridians. See how postural/movement patterns extend subtly into the head. The cranium, like the pelvis and rib cage, is meant to transmit force and movements — though on a much smaller scale. The cranial sutures do an extremely elegant job of providing a well-stabilized environment for the central nervous system, which needs to remain relatively still. At the same time, the biotensegrity of the structure allows for compression and decompression at the sutures, enhancing physiological function (blood transport, neural conduction, and movements for swallowing, sinus drainage and sight). Using the AT lines as a map, we’ll review a selection of cranial sutures — where they are, how they move, and how to tell if they are ‘sticky’. From assessment, we’ll shift to treating the sutures with specific and effective methods. This gentle approach incorporates both mobilizations (biomechanical) and fluid ‘listening’ strategies (cranial wave). Please arrange for a model during the specified times — the practical learning will include both seated and table work. We’ll also use a balloon for highlighting palpation strategies during the first module. No prior experience in craniosacral therapy required. This course will be held live online via Zoom meeting, with plenty of time for Q & A. Students will receive access to the recordings for 45 days after the course ends. You do not need to attend live to get benefit from this course. Note: Students will receive a detailed handout including principles, assessments, and techniques.
