Presidents Update

Dear ##[Name | First]##,

I want to start off this month's message by wishing all of you a very happy holiday season!

We SIers are "people people" and—at least for me—the holidays are filled with the many and diverse personalities of my very large family. I originally came from a very small family (my mom, my sister, and myself), and integrating into my wife's huge family has been quite the process for a natural introvert like myself.

Each year I appreciate my family more and more. This also goes for my SI family. I have never felt so in tune with a great group of people as during our most recent IASI Symposium this past April. At this event, more than 100 practitioners from all over the world came together for three days of learning and connecting.

During the past few months, as I have been assimilating to the duties of IASI president, I have felt I am at the helm of our wondrous and amazing profession. In this new position, I have come to appreciate SIers in a new way and I have realized we ARE a special breed and we tend to be happiest when we can connect as a community. I have also noticed this during my recent experience in classes and programs. (Have you had a chance to check out the long list of courses we have on our website?)

Right now, SI as a profession is at a potential game-changing turning point. We have the opportunity to support one another and spur each other on to new heights as a group. There is amazing diversity in our ranks from animal SIers to folks who are focused on various styles, nerve work, scar work, osteopathic techniques, and more. I want to encourage you all to embrace the diversity and the emerging specializations of our members! This is a real strength to be celebrated in each specialty. Our practices may be rooted firmly in the lineage of Dr. Rolf's work from their initial training, but we are on many paths to new discoveries as well.

Lastly, I want to encourage any and all IASI members to reach out to me or any IASI Board Members to help us move our profession onward and upward. We are currently looking for enthusiastic SIers who would like to volunteer some of their time and energy to various committee projects. Being a volunteer gives you the chance to connect with and learn from other passionate SIers.

Best,

IASI President

Yearbook Is On Its Way

The 2018 IASI Yearbook is at the printer!

IASI will start mailing the books at the beginning of January. Start checking your mailbox at the start of the new year.

In the meantime, please enjoy this excerpt from the book, an article from Robin Graber, BCSI, entitled, "How Structural Integration Became a Licensed Profession in Nevada".

In the article, Robin tells the story of her 14-year journey from seeing SI and massage therapy as unlicensed practices in Nevada to SI becoming its own, separately licensed profession. Now, thanks in large part to Robin's hard work and persistence, only Board Certified Structural Integrators may advertise as practicing structural integration in Nevada.

We thank Robin for her efforts and for her willingness to share her story. This offers a blueprint for SI practitioners in other states who wish to pursue similar protections.

CBSI Update

It is renewal time for those of you that are board certified. BCSIs need to report their CEs in 2018, the deadline is December 31, 2018.

If you are not certified, you should consider it. The Certification Board for Structural Integrationsm examines and maintains standards of ethical and professional practice in the delivery of services through a credentialing program that promotes the competency of practitioners of Structural Integration.

CBSI identifies Board Certified Structural Integrators to the profession and the public. CBSI establishes and enforces education, examination, experience and ethics requirements to strengthen the interests of Structural Integration professionals and protect the public.
