Reclaiming the Pelvic Floor

Instructor: Denise Foster Scott LMT, BCSI

Special Guest: Deborah Nimmons, LMT, BA, JD, BCSI

IASI CE Credits: 17 (4 Ethics)

Course Description:

Part of the Soma Summer Intensive - Explore the Diaphragms of the Body series. Take the trainings individually or as a series. The advanced trainings are open to all graduated Soma Neuromuscular Integration® practitioners, and, new this year, to all other Structural Integration practitioners as well. We are excited to offer our perspective and welcome the wider SI community into our school.

Harness your expertise of the pelvic floor. Bring awareness and empowerment to a vital portion of our bodies that is classically misunderstood, silenced and shamed. Why do we work the pelvic floor in Structural Integration? How do we assess if a pelvic floor is hypertonic? Hypotonic? What systemic experiences would either of those conditions cause? Can YOU embody your pelvic floor? Spend two days with our core anatomy instructor of 7 years, Denise Foster Scott as she helps clarify our work on the pelvic floor and psoas while bringing you into a greater awareness of your own body. We will bring insight to the anatomy and physiology of the pelvis, and broaden the importance of pelvic diaphragm work. Special guest Deborah Nimmons, Soma Practitioner and IASI Law and Regulation chair, will educate us on ethical considerations regarding new WA State laws and restrictions that govern working in this area. Through the lens of Structural Integration, we will reclaim our expertise and find clarity in structural analysis, new techniques for our SI sessions, and self-care all while awakening our own connection to what Dr. Ida Rolf called the “seat of your soul.”

Speaker Bio:

Denise Foster-Scott BCSI, LMP, Certified Advanced Practitioner: CAP when seeking a meaningful career, left the world of aviation to receive her training as a Structural Integrator at the Soma Institute of Neuromuscular Integration® in 2007. Shortly after graduation, she began a yearlong internship with Karen Bolesky in which she explored client relationships and delved into the heart of structural work. Denise has a deep fascination with how our individual facets (emotional, spiritual, intellectual) affect the structure of the body and how to use these connections in ourselves to create spaciousness and openness within. She has a special interest in anatomy and structure and pays close attention to the relationship between form and function in her work with clients and students. Denise is certified by the Certification Board for Structural IntegrationSM and has devoted many volunteer hours to the International Association of Structural Integration®. She has published several case studies about structural integration. www.somavitality.com
