Course Description: In this three-part virtual workshop, plus guided home study, we will explore Tonic Function, Hubert Godard's wide-ranging perspective on movement, as it is applied to working with scoliosis. Tonic Function speaks to the role of gravity, perception, coordination, and expression in each individual's embodied experience of living and being. Too often, a scoliosis diagnosis defines a person's embodiment, movement, and sense of self. In this workshop, we will explore perception, coordination, and movement as approaches for empowering our clients to find more joy, comfort, freedom, and agency - regardless if their spine is "side-bent" and "rotated" or not. Each Zoom session includes embodiment practices that give you tools to use for yourself and your clients, as well as case studies, presentations, and discussion of concepts to help you ground theory in practice. The Zoom sessions will be supplemented with video and reading assignments to deepen theoretical understanding and assist in the development of practice strategies.
